It is no secret that I love playing a paladin.
One of my all-time favorites is Kriv Rimescale, a silver dragonborn paladin modeled after the iconic Lord Vader. If you are anything like me, you spend plenty of time running your PCs through imagined scenarios, carefully planning your next move so you are fully prepared when game night rolls around.
One of my absolute favorite spells as a paladin is Command. It is the ultimate power move, letting you embrace your role as a battlefield commander and impose your will—whether on your enemies or even the occasional reluctant ally. But let us be honest: what sounds brilliant during pre-game planning often turns chaotic in the heat of battle, when your limitless vocabulary suddenly feels reduced to just a few words.
That is when inspiration struck. I decided to create a list of go-to Command words for different situations, and, well, I might have gone a little overboard. Below, you will find a collection of eleven d100 tables of Command words, carefully crafted for a variety of scenarios. Together, they include nearly nine hundred unique words (although some are versatile enough to appear in multiple tables).
The tables are neatly organized into categories, and you can click on each category’s name to jump directly to its list. Whether you want to take control of the battlefield, issue a strategic order, or create a dramatic moment, these tables have you covered.
- Bestial Commands - Commands that evoke primal instincts, prompting targets to exhibit animalistic behaviors.
- Combat Commands - Commands designed to influence the flow of battle, giving you tactical control over foes and allies.
- Emotional Commands - Commands that manipulate emotions, swaying feelings to affect actions and decisions.
- Exploration Commands - Commands to aid in navigation and discovery during your adventures into the unknown.
- Fantasy Commands - Magical commands that unleash extraordinary effects beyond the mundane.
- Humorous Commands - Lighthearted commands that bring levity, causing amusing and unexpected reactions.
- Madness Commands - Commands that introduce chaos and instability, affecting minds with unpredictability.
- Physical Commands - Commands that compel specific physical actions and movements from the target.
- Political Commands - Commands to sway opinions and influence decisions within social and political arenas.
- Psychological Commands - Commands that delve into the mind, altering thoughts and perceptions.
- Social Commands - Commands that facilitate interaction and manipulate social dynamics among individuals or groups.
Each list is designed as a d100 random table, including the Command Word and its intended effect. While context is everything, we get that game masters have more styles of play than there are stars in the sky. So your mileage may vary. Tag us on social media @WereRabbitPress to share your Command Shenanigans with us. We would love to hear your stories!
These tables are completely free for personal use. If you would like to support the project, you can purchase the tables from our store. There you will receive two PDFs (one with textured backgrounds, the other print friendly), as well as JPGs of each of the tables.
Paid members of our Patreon community can download it for free.
The project will also be available on DriveThruRPG and Amazon once the files have been approved. Links will be added later.
